Birthday Buster

I forgot to upload these before. My birthday was about a month ago and I remember being overly excited that the highlight of the day would be a trip to Smith and Western's in the evening. I think I mentioned it previously actually when I was talking about steak!

Well after a busy day shopping with Matt's money (great present, huh?!), I was starving for a steak and decided to upgrade myself to something a bit bigger that I hadn't tried before...

This is an Ocean Steak - 10 ounces of steak goodness with three fat juicy king prawns and a lardful of chips on the side! I've just had my dinner, but looking at this picture is making my mouth water...

And for the first time ever, I had a starter at this place! I always skip getting a starter (and believe it or not, never have room for dessert) at S&W's, because I want to appreciate my steak in all it's mighty meatiness. But I decided to share (yes, it was probably the first time I've shared something too, haha) these yummy potato skins:

So after this and the big steak, I was well and truly full. But oh dear, because it was my birthday, I had the pleasure receiving the Birthday Belly Buster, which comes complete with flaming candle, singing cowboys, bells and whistles, the works...

I actually don't like ice cream that much but I did eat the wafer and flake! But of course, I would never let food go to waste...

My friends were more than happy to eat it!

Square Pie

Before you think I'm a total pie-obsessive, can I just say that the fact that I'm doing another post about pie is purely coincidental?

I was in the shopping centre part of Canary Wharf in London (feeling a bit out of place must I say with all the suited people striding past and seeing lots of shops that I wouldn't dare step foot in, for fear of being sniffed at). Then I walked past a shop with the most loveliest smell of pastry floating out - Square Pie. Luckily, I was feeling quite hungry!

Unfortunately, it was towards the end of the day so they didn't have many pies left but I got a chicken and mushroom pie with double mash and beans. (Yes, always go for the bigger option - unless it's a McDonald's cos they just never fill you up anyway) They put the pie meal in a square cardboard box and though it was fine to eat out of, it did spoil the presentation a bit.

But the taste! My goodness, the taste. It was officially the best pie that I have ever eaten. And I have eaten a lot of pies. I loved the actual shop too, with all these nice canvasses on the walls about how they make their pies and I kept looking at the menu in awe of all the different types of pies they have. And I swear that when we walked in, they were playing a song about pies. It sounded like what you would imagine chefs in a Disney kitchen to sing as they dance around baking pies.

I had to take pictures on my boyf's phone too as I didn't have my camera on me at the time. He's being slow at sending them to me so will post them up later. They probably won't be very good quality anyway and do the pie any justice! Well it gives me an extra reason to go back there again. They do deliveries for 'office pie days' but unfortunately they are a London based pastry yumster.

Do you think they would deliver to Chichester?

An Ode to Pie

This pie lacked the pastry...
This pie had no meat...
This pie was quite filling...
This pie was a treat!

And this pie was just yum, yum, yum...

and they were ALL for me!

Eat Fresh

I was in Ealing for work yesterday and whenever I go up there, I usually get a Subway for lunch. Yesterday was a particularly busy meeting-filled day and I had a half hour window to get a quick bite. But I was not to worry because going for a Subway is just like grabbing your usual coffee on the way to work. It just rolls off the tongue:

"Hi! Honey oat foot long Sub of the Day one side cheese untoasted please!"

"Um, we don't do Sub of the Day anymore.."

What?

I was mortified. And completely thrown. Why, I had to actually stop and look at the MENU. My eyes darted over the boards, confused. It didn't help that it just gave the prices of a six-inch sub. Not that I fault them for doing this of course because I would assume most people aren't so lardified as me to ALWAYS get a foot long version.

The queue builds up behind me. The Subway guy tries to help by drilling out sales patter:

"We now have Flavour of the Month where you choose one of the three flavours up on the board there for only £2.39 today it's tuna mayo spicy italian or subway melt but it's £2 extra to make it a footlong but you can still add whatever vegetables and sauces you want as usual for no extra charge"

What are the odds that with whatever day I used to go, I always happened to fancy having that particular Sub of the Day, but now, with three flavours to choose from, none of them appealed to me whatsoever?

Well, I got over it. And enjoyed a delicious Italian BMT. Continue reading this post..

When there's no bread...

Eat CAKE!

I went to Hong Kong the Christmas before last and ate so much that I went on a meat ban for a month after coming back to the UK!

But funnily enough, despite all the eating (we went to 25 restaurants over 11 days), there was a constant nagging in my stomach (not indigestion, honest) of something missing.

Bread! You don't really find much bread in Hong Kong, or sandwiches or anything. You do get Chinese cakes though and this is my favourite:

It's called a pineapple bun because of the pattern on the top! Continue reading this post..
