SAUSAGES!These were meant to be like a posh version of sausage rolls but as you can see, they turned out looking like huge dumplings. So instead of being cute little appetizers that could be nibbled on lightly, they were a hefty portion so filling that you felt a bit too porked out by it all.
It was also the first time I made puff pastry properly. Well when I say properly, I mean from scratch, not necessarily in the correct way! I'm pretty sketchy with my pastry-making and get myself in a right flap trying to get it right.
First of all, I poured way too much water in, resulting in an extremely sticky dough that was proving impossible to roll into a ball. Yet, this didn't trigger a loud enough alarm bell for me because I still just stashed it into some clingfilm and left in the fridge to 'set'. "It'll be fine!" I thought.
Of course, it wasn't.
Cue numerous additions of flour, water, flour, water, and...more flour. Yes, it was a tricky time trying to get the consistency right. I almost reached breaking point as I slapped it onto the table, ready to head out into the rain to buy a pre-made version to use instead.
You'll be pleased to know (well - those who I didn't inflict these on to eat in the end perhaps) that I perservered and finally got my pastry right!
